On topic, I called Best Buy and was told that unless I pre-ordered before the day of the sale, I could not get an iPad 2. My co-worker walked in last week off the street and purchased one. Why the inconsistent message?
![]()
I don't get it. The same thing happened to me at bestbuy, inventory showed they had ipads available I went to the store and none available. I called a couple hours later and they said the had the 32gb available, so I trek back to BB and by the time I got there they were all gone. Interesting, I don't know what to believe. Donald+trump+haircut. I also wanted to add. Go onto UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP (and see how many groups you would be missing if ITUNES didn't offer Universal.
If you need '98 DEGREES' on your iPOD, then you better start freaking out. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Universal has nothing to threaten Apple with. No worries here.
I went there, made it thru the 'D's and came up with these artists in my digital collection: Aaron Neville Al Jarreau BB King Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Blues Traveller Bob Marley and the Wailers Cardigans Counting Crows Cowboy Mouth Cranberries David Benoit Def Leppard Del Amitri There's a boat-load more there, yes they're a BIG label. Z. Donald+trump+haircut+2011. Hate to be repetative, but this tells me what i already know. But the quesiton comes with this line: Does anyone know if the chips that are actually shipping are the same as the prototype chips? Again, sorry for the repatition, but id really like to drop one of these in my mini and dont want to find out AFTER i tear apart the mini that the new chips wont fit! There might be a voltage issue.
It will fit though. donald trump hair in the wind. People here are failing to understand the difference between traditional patents that we usually hear about here, and design patents. I believe what Apple is suing over is infringed design patents.
That the Galaxy S has a icon grid method for selecting applications is irrelevant in that case. They tried to copy the general design and likeness of the iPhone, which is against the design patents. Also, whoever it was arguing it previously. Let's not trot out the whole 'Apple lost the 'look and feel' argument against Microsoft' thing. That was a different case. Design patents still get filed and granted all the time. This is a new case.
To clarify even farther, the Microsoft 'look and feel' lawsuit was a Breach of Copyright suit that Apple lost, not a patent suit. Apple took to patenting their 'look and feel' in order to have a more solid foundation to base future lawsuits. Cutting it all off is easier. I agree, this rumor is sketchy.
It looks like they have one unreliable source. Still, I don't see why BB is good for Apple stuff unless the Apple store is too crowded. I agree, if I am shopping for apple stuff, i would prefer an apple store, however there is a best buy every where. I live in northwest indiana, and the nearest apple store is 40 minutes away, and im sure a lot of people have it worse. It would be absoutly idioitic of apple to quit supplying best buy because best buy has a longer reach then apple to more people. trump Comb+over+haircut.
All that I get from that quote is that they are using older models, but that they will, obviously, be rendered in the new GT5 engine. So, the marketing team can say all they want, but actual screen shots of Standard™ cars do not show much improvement, if any at all, resolution increase notwithstanding.
Based on what, old gameplay footage? Game are often tested with old resources while the new models are being built. God of War used a stick man with a sword until they got Kratos done.

Look at this pic: That rx-7 looks tons better than anything GT4 ever had, but its still not as nice as the 'premium' cars. I am assuming of course that this is live-rendered, and i believe it is due to the jaggies on the rear of the rx-7, which i can't imagine they would let slide on a pre-rendered shot. Time will tell, of course, but i'm certain they didnt just import models from GT4. What the hell would they have been doing for the past 5 years?.
york Donald+trump+haircut. More pedantic details for those who are interested.:) NT actually started as OS/2 3.0.
Its lead architect was OS guru Dave Cutler, who is famous for architecting VMS for DEC, and naturally its design influenced NT. And the N-10 (Where 'NT' comes from, 'N' 'T'en) Intel RISC processor was never intended to be a mainstream product; Dave Cutler insisted on the development team NOT using an X86 processor to make sure they would have no excuse to fall back on legacy code or thought.
In fact, the N-10 build that was the default work environment for the team was never intended to leave the Microsoft campus. NT over its life has run on X86, DEC Alpha, MIPS, PowerPC, Itanium, and x64. IBM and Microsoft worked together on OS/2 1.0 from 1985-1989. Much maligned, it did suck because it was targeted for the 286 not the 386, but it did break new ground - preemptive multitasking and an advanced GUI (Presentation Manager).
By 1989 they wanted to move on to something that would take advantage of the 386's 32-bit architecture, flat memory model, and virtual machine support. Simultaneously they started OS/2 2.0 (extend the current 16-bit code to a 16-32-bit hybrid) and OS/2 3.0 (a ground up, platform independent version). When Windows 3.0 took off in 1990, Microsoft had second thoughts and eventually broke with IBM. OS/2 3.0 became Windows NT - in the first days of the split, NT still had OS/2 Presentation Manager APIs for it's GUI. They ripped it out and created Win32 APIs. That's also why to this day NT/2K/XP supported OS/2 command line applications, and there was also a little known GUI pack that would support OS/2 1.x GUI applications. All very true, but beyond that - if you've ever looked closely VMS and at NT, you'll notice, it's a lot more than just 'influenced'.
The core design was pretty much identical - the way I/O worked, its interrupt handling, the scheduler, and so on - they're all practically carbon copies. Some of the names changed, but how things work under the hood hadn't. Since then it's evolved, of course, but you'd expect that. Quite amusing, really. How a heavyweight enterprise-class OS of the 80's became the desktop of the 00's:) Those that were around in the dim and distant will recall that VMS and Unix were two of the main competitors in many marketplaces in the 80's and early 90's. And today we have OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.
Vs XP, W2K3 Server and (soon) Vista - kind of ironic, dontcha think?:) Of course, there's a lot still running VMS to this very day. I don't think HP wants them to tho' - they just sent all the support to India, apparently, to a team with relatively little experience. donald trump jr hair. (Intel announced (the long anticipated Core 2 Duo processors today. Intel announced 10 new chips including 5 designed for latops (Merom) and 5 for desktops (Conroe). Core 2 Duo runs at slower clock speeds than Pentium-era chips, but is still more productive because it handles more calculations per clock cycle, said Sean Tucker, a product manager at HP.
Os X 10.5 System Requirements
Thanks to that slower speed, Core 2 Duo chips need less electricity, drawing just 65 watts compared to the Pentium 4s 95 watts and Pentium Ds 130 watts. Intel has already started shipping Core 2 Duo chips to manufacturers, so the first Core 2 Duo Desktop machines should reach consumers in early August. Meanwhile Core 2 Duo laptops will reach consumers by the end of August. Conroe and Merom are successors to the Core Duo processor which was introduced by Intel early this year. The Core Duo (Yonah) was the first Intel chip used in Apple's switch to intel earlier this year. At present Apple's lineup is as follows: Intel: MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini: Core Duo or Core Solo (Yonah) PowerPC: PowerMac, Xserve: PowerPC 970 (G5) Newer processors from Intel sharing a new architecture now include: Core 2 Duo mobile (Merom) Core 2 Duo desktop (Conroe) Xeon 5100 (Woodcrest) Woodcrest is rumored (to be used in the Mac Pro, which is expected be released at WWDC 2006.
Apple's use of the Core 2 Duo is not yet clear, but the Core 2 Duo mobile (Merom) is pin compatible (with the current Core Duo (Yonah). This means that Apple could easily upgrade the existing Intel-based Macs to the newer processor with no design changes. Short wavy cut floppy penis.
It's simple: Apple is always behind hardware-wise because they like to priorize esthetics and appearance Android phones are selling more than iPhone. I've only bought the first iPad because there were no competitors at that time (and I hate netbooks), but now things are different.
To be honest, A LOT different. 1st point: It's factually inaccurate to make your first statement, as evidenced by your last statement. Kind of funny, don't you think? In your second statement, you are comparing all Android software-running phones to a single model/product line, the iPhone. The iPhone (each generation) has out sold any single phone model (generation) over it's life than that of any offered by any other hardware manufacturer. Your comparison is like saying Toyota has sold more cars than Ford has sold F-150s.
That may be true, but the F-150 is still the number one selling truck in the US, even though it does not outsell the sum total of all other trucks by all other manufacturers. You should compare a single phone model, say Motorola Droid or HTC Incredible.
You are simply talking software. Apple is primarily a hardware company that happens to make the software for its hardware. (yes, I know about FCP and other software) They do not license the iOS software to other manufacturers, so comparison to Google's OS and number of DIFFERENT phones it runs on is really irrelevant to whether any hardware manufacturer has had a more successful phone than the iPhone. So I read in this thread that Kentsfield and Clovertown ARE compatible with Conroe and Woodcrest sockets (respectively) (Cloverton or Clovertown?) Well, people here have mentioned it.
I haven't seen any sources for these claims, however. It's worth noting that the Pentium 4 shipped in several different socket packages over the years. The fact that the cores might be electrically compatible does not necessarily mean you're going to be able to perform a chip-swap upgrade on your Mac! Hope for upgrading an iMac to Quad Core is kindled! At least if Apple releases Conroe iMacs. And assuming they don't solder the chip to the motherboard, or hardwire the clock-multiplier chips, or hard-wire the voltage regulator settings, etc.
There are a lot of things that can be done to a motherboard to make these kinds of upgrades painful or even impossible. With any kind of rumor like this, 'I'll believe it when I see it' should be your mantra. Sure, these kinds of upgrades would be great, and it may even be possible to perform them on generic PC motherbaords, but this doesn't necessarily mean it will be easy or even possible on the systems Apple ends up shipping. BTW, In my opinion, one thing a person should never, ever say is some computer has too much power, and that it will never be needed. 'Never' is always too strong a word. But there are plenty of good reasons to say 'useless for today's applications' or 'not worth the cost'. When applications start demanding more, and when costs come down, then the equations change.
As they always do. When we will be able to download our entire lives, and even conciousness into a computer, as is said to happen in about 40 years (very much looking forward to). You're looking forward to this? Let's hope for your sake that Microsoft has nothing to do with the system software.
I don't think it will be possible, even in 40 years, despite what sci-fi authors are predicting. And there's no way I'd ever have such a system installed even if it would be come possible. The possibility of dying or becoming comatose, or even worse, as a result of a software glitch is something I'm not going to allow. To quote McCoy from Star Trek: 'Let's see how it scrambles your molecules first.'
So as a conclusion to my most recent rant, Please, never tell me a computer is too powerfu, has too many cores, or has too much storage capacity. If it is there to be used, it will be used. It always is. But do you want to be the first person to have to pay for it? The trouble is. I find the TDP numbers for Sandy Bridge very misleading.
For example the previous i7 2.66Ghz dual core had a TDP of 35W and the current i7 2.2Ghz quad core has a TDP of 45W. Theoretically, it should only use 10W more when doing CPU intensive task, but according to anandtech who measured the task, the i7 Sandy Bridge Quad core was using almost 40W more when running cinebench. It just doesn't make any sense. Going by those figures, if the i7 dual core was 35W, the i7 Sandy Bridge quad core would be around 70W. Not sure how this relates to potential MacBook Air Sandy Bridge processors, but keep in mind.
There must be a reason why Samsung went for the ULV processor in their 13' laptop instead of the LV one. CPU isn't the only thing that changed. AMD 6750M (30W) has higher TDP than NVidia GT 330M (23W). I had to put because their TDPs are not officially stated by AMD or NVidia so it's just based on previous GPUs and their TDPs. The point is that AMD 6750M has higher TDP. There is also another thing.
TDP is not the maximum power draw. Maximum power dissipation is usually 20-30% more than the actual TDP. While MPD is rarely achieved as it requires maximum voltage and temperature, it can (nearly) be achieved with heavy benchmarking applications. For example, the combined TDP from quad core SB and AMD 6750M is 75W.
If we use 20% extra as the MPD, that is 90W, just from the CPU and GPU! Of course those parts are not using 90W in that test because things like screen, HD, RAM etc need power too. As the MPD is usually in percents, it can explain why the difference is so big in watts. 40W sounds a bit too much to explain with MPD though. IIRC the GT 330M is underclocked but I'm not 100% sure. You have a valid point that the SBs may be using more power than their predecessors. To make this more accurate, we should compare them with C2Ds though;) I guess we will have to wait and see, but an ULV in 13' would be more than a disappointment.
A 2.66 Ghz Woodcrest will probably be faster than a 2.93Ghz Conroe. A 1.83Ghz Yonah is faster than a 3.2Ghz Pentium, right?;)I thought the two processors were identical (in a single processor config) except that the Woodcrests have a higher FSB (1066mhz vs. According to the Anandtech review, the 1333mhz FSB gives you only about 3% boost in speed. Core 2 Duo 2.13 ghz - $224 (2MB L2 cache) 2.40 ghz - $316 2.67 ghz - $530 Xeon 5100 series 2.00 ghz - $316 2.33 ghz - $455 2.66 ghz - $690 It makes more sense to go with a 2.4 ghz Conroe for a single-processor config, since it's cheaper than the 2.33 ghz Woodcrest. What I'd like to see: GOOD 2.40 ghz Core 2 Duo - $1499 BETTER 2 x 2.00 ghz Xeon - $1999 BEST 2 x 2.67 ghz Xeon - $2799 Of course, if Apple were REALLY ambitious, they should release a mini tower using Conroes and release the Mac Pros in quad-only configs. Does anyone think the recent 'problems' at Apple are going to have any effect on what happens Monday. Story: If there are products that are they 'maybe' list, this might put them on the 'go' list. Big news pushes stock prices up and pushes the 'problem' stories on page 2. In fact, I was going to post the same thing. I was all set to be disappointed by the keynote until I read a new Forbes article on the topic. They are expecting some pretty amazing things; things that will divert media attention away from Apple's embarrassing financial scandal.
How about seamless MSN/Yahoo! Messenger support in iChat? All of which has upped the stakes for Apple and Jobs, the company's public face.
He must show the world something new when he delivers the keynote at Monday's conference. Something revolutionary, not evolutionary, that will excite the fans, grow the business-and change the subject. Magic Kingdom Castle Lights. Remember that the G5 is 64 bit. While the consumer apps may not be too directly affected at first, (speed increases, but nothing else), as more memory is required, 32 bit will hit a brick wall at 4GiB, whereas 64 bit can go along happily to 2,305,843,009,200,000,000GiB.
Realistically, it will take some time to get to that level, but with the last G5 supporting 16GiB, 32 then 64 wouldn't be too far off. Within 10 years, I'm sure 1TiB will start to become common. But with only 2 RAM slots in most current Macs (apart from obviously the Power Mac G5 which has 64-bit processor anyway), getting past 4GB is basically impossible/ ridiculously expensive at the moment. disney princess castle cake.
If this went into effect, I would have a defense in court when I downloaded the entire Universal Label Catalog (All Their Music) off the net. I would no longer buy anything from iTS that is Universal! Wow, is the Music label the same as the Movie label. I could get all the movies too (to play on my iPod)! I mean if the royalties are paid when the device is manufactured, there is no need for them to double dip and collect royalties again when I pay for content right? I think it would hold in court!. Made by the yearsace of cakes.
Addressing larger RAM partitions is not the #1 advantage for me. I will not be putting 4GB of memory into my laptop. And I suspect it is not the #1 advantage for most of the people posting in this thread. If you don't like the subject matter of this thread, then don't read it. Simple as that. You're so wrong.
Most people posting in this thread don't have a clue what 64 bit computing really means. They just think they have to have it because it's the newest thing. Disney#39;s Magic Kingdom Castle. It's the future, you know, soon the clock speed will be irrelevant and we'll be expressing processor speed in number of cores octocore, hexacore, tricontradicore, hexacontetracore, hecticosoctocore, and such and such At some point your going to have deminished returns. Sure multimedia apps can take advantage of a few more cores, but I dont see Mail running faster on 4 cores, nevermind 2!
The nice thing about intel is that they seem to realise that, and have invested in improved IO as well, look at Pci express and SATA, you can have the fastest processor in the world, but if your running it with 512megs of memory your going to slow down fast!. Hemar, world Cake+boss+. Have you ever owned a machine that hasn't been CPU bound? I know I haven't. Probably Single CPU bound. It will be gr8 being able to get 8 cores in a Mac, but if the software dosn't use it. Someone already mentioned that it also gives you the possibility to use those cores by using many apps at once.
This is true, but I wonder how many often you will actually use all those cores at once. Let's hope the 'opposite of Hyperthreading' will come along (Leopard feature???). So, instead of a 'emulating' a Dual Core / CPU config (like on later Pentium 4's), emulate a Single CPU on multiple cores. Then, you get 8. 3 GHz = 1. 24 GHz.!!!.
wedding cake castle. Keep in mind that Google tightening up Android and forcing handset makers to adhere to certain guidelines is primarily a problem for the.handset makers. and carriers-but not consumers. I couldn't care less what problems Verizon and Motorola have if the end result is a beautiful and functional device. If not, I'll buy something else. At a glance your statement sounds fine.
But that logic can be used for following logics: 1. I don't care what US does to rest of world as long as I as an american can live nice, prosperous life. But i digress.

I think what they're saying is it costs Best Buy (and I guess other resellers) $90 for each AppleTV unit they order in - and they sell it for Apple's set price of $99, meaning they make a measly $9 profit from the sale of one unit. They didn't mean that they are selling the unit to the consumer themselves for $90.
Original poster replied saying the exact same thing Hm, I see what you're saying. I will have to double check for iPad sales. As far as I know, however, they do not contribute toward meeting daily budgets. The thing is Apple is shooting itself in the foot because it knows that all the Prosumers research enough that they know there is better available. Apple is losing alot of sales by not being prepared.
I would think that Apple would get 2nd priority to Dell on shipments so they should have a good stock of C2D. Where's your proof that Apple is losing a lot of sales by not being prepared?
If everone that ever visited MacRumors got mad and purchased a Dell, that would not be a lot. Are you just making this up? This is interesting, BUT, from what I know, Intel announced the desktop (Conroe) Core 2 Duo proccessor on July 27, and as far as I know, no Conroe systems are shipping right now, almost a month later.

Dell has announced some Conroe systems that you can order, but as far as I know they aren't readily shipping yet. I believe Intel has been having trouble getting the required chipsets out on time to the desktop market. You can get the chips themselves without much trouble- the retail versions are available at Newegg for the 1.86, 2.13, 2.66, and 2.93 Extreme Core 2 Duo chips, with the sole out of stock chip being the 2.4GHz chip, with an estimated time of arrival being Sept. 1st at 2:30PM. Last release before Lion - semi-brick your machine to force an upgrade. IOS 4.3, last release before iPhone 5 - murder your battery to force an upgrade. You've guessed it, I'm not very happy with Apple at the moment. So which is it; underhand tactics, sloppy Q&A or declining standards?
Probably all three;) The QA team has gradually got worse and worse over the last few years. Apple have become more and more greedy, and you can bet the Mac OS coders cant be bothered to work on its ancient codebase when across the office a group of people get to play with the newer (granted still based on Mac OS) iOS. A long haired dachshund dog. Except he rewrote iMovie all my himself before showing it to Apple. Jobs then chose to adopt the new interface. So if anything, what you find crap in iMovie was Ubilos' ideas. Things I don't like to hear.
In all honesty I just hope he wanted to separate iMovie from Pro products even more. I have bad feeling about all of this. Rumors about FCP being FC (literally not going for pro anymore) and aiming for online consumer delivery like YouTube makes me sick. If they have killed tape input / output you know that moment Apple really made iCut'Pro'. Standard wire haired dachshund. I really really really hope they just go in with a carrier on this (of course requiring Cingular to not cripple the functionality). There's no way in the world Apple would make as much money off of this as if they got in with one of the big guys.
Just ask Disney - ESPN mobile is bombing as is Disney mobile. It doesn't work. And most of those you have to pay retail price for the phone - screw that. I'm going to be with Cingular anyway I might as well get them to take $200 off the phone for me. PLEASE STEVE, GO WITH CINGULAR!!!!!!!
Note; I'm just saying Cingular since they are the only ones who really seem interested in offering iTunes on their phones. Long-Haired Dachshund Puppy. Of course, the problem with waiting until Paris for consumer upgrades like MacBook is that Apple will entirely miss the educational buying season, losing one of the largest markets for its consumer products. If my memory serves me correctly, new models are hardly ever introduced in time for the educational buying season. Whether this is by design (Apple can probably make the highest profit margins off selling somewhat older products at the same price point) or by chance, I don't know.
There does seem to be a lot of wishful thinking about what Apple 'has to do' because of educational buying season, competition with other PC manufacturers, whatever. From the business and engineering point of view, Apple may have very good reasons to delay releases beyond what we think is 'reasonable.' .
Dachshund Breeder Long Haired. I got to my local RS at 8am, nobody there, left and came back around 8:45, there were a few people there. The manager was on his cell phone listening to a conference call. After the call finished, he said that it was decided that they are NOT taking pre-orders, but only reservations.
He took our names and info and said he would call later in the day with 'Pin Numbers' that were assigned to their store. He also said that he could not reserve any iPhones in their system/computer until 10am. So, basically what happened is another store entered their reservations before the 10am assigned time and took up all the pin numbers for OUR area. (This cheating store is in Sacramento, Ca.) So, later in the day, I called and the manager said that they could only hope for some iPhones to be sent to our store and if so, they would keep ours aside for us (first come, first serve). But, he said the likelyhood of this happening looks grim.
Why did Apple/RadioShack even bother? Even the manager told me the whole process was screwed up. stock photo: Red Long-Haired. The only reason I see Apple going all Woodcrest is to justify their high markups, while insulting you Mac Loyalist on price they also offer you less performance for your money. Look here at the current woody pricing at Newegg So apple is going to charge you guys $1799 for a Desktop with a 2.0ghz CPU, when everyone else will charge $1199 for a Conroe E6600 2.4ghz based desktop. This is not looking good apple. There's a good point here, but it's not the one you're pointing.
If Apple continues as they have with the PowerMac pricing, the Mac Pro will not be an insult if you compare it to Dells, HP and other vendors' pro offerings. Historically they have all been at very comparable price levels for comparable products. There are other differences between the lines than GHz. Quality standards for the pro/expensive lines are higher than for the consumer line, for one thing. The point is that Apple doesn't have an option for potential buyers that want a high performance, customisable and upgradable consumer level product (not all-in-one). There are no Apple product to compare those $1199 Conroe PCs to. The closest thing is the iMac.
Aiellos Long Haired Dachshunds. While I might agree with some of things you said, I do have to take exception to this point. How did Obama sell himself as a 'military dove'? He campaigned on getting out of Iraq, while escalating our campaign in Afghanistan. And promises to close Gitmo had more to do with due process than it did pacifism.
So please 5P, provide some evidence on how Obama sold himself as a 'dove'. And please, let's dispense with your ridiculous 'both parties are the same line'. Is that a pickle in your pocket, or are you just happy to see Newt Gingrich? I'm getting tired of these sensational, histrionic and downright dishonest threads. Longhaired Dachshund dog. Probably what bothers me the most about the discourse that Android is open is the underlying logic that is an implicit (or perhaps really explicit, depending on who is touting that discourse) assumption that it is democratic, liberal, progressive, and for 'the people' and thus prevents a 'draconian future' from happening because instead of letting corporations dictate our digital worlds, the people will a) have a say in it and b) have a choice.
This discourse makes a false link between software being open source and political ideology. The two are not necessarily corresponding.
And furthermore, that Android is actually open source is highly debatable but I won't go there. Why do so many technophiles fall for the discourse that open means choice means freedom mean democracy discourse? It's all BALONEY! Google isn't really interested in protecting your freedom, democracy etc.
It's really interested in surviving and making money. Let's try not to fall AGAIN for that political cover. In this case, I find Apple much more honest. They don't talk about political ideologies like freedom, democracy etc. All they say is they want to make devices that are friendly and easy to use. They don't couch their products in political ideological terms.
